The festival takes place this weekend (the 25th and 26th of October). Entrance to the festival costs R5 / child, R10 / adult.

This month we have plenty of exciting news – from competitions to specials, holiday workshops to books.

The beginning of this month saw the birth of our site, one that leaves us with no excuse not to keep it updated and informative. Our hats go off to the designer and creator, Jan of j.media, for all the patience, work and creativity he put in to it.

With the July holidays looming and the rainy weather bundling everyone indoors, you’ll need to keep your little ones busy – so why not sign them up for our July Holiday Workshops? Starting on Monday the 30th of June we’ll be making masks, toys, stamps, costumes, cards and more. Spaces are limited, so don’t miss out! If you book your child in for a full week you get a R50 discount. Check the ‘Activities’ page on our website for more information. If you are a parent, friend or caregiver to a child with special needs – please contact us – we’d love to have him/her participate.

Your child can also brush up on his/her creative skills at home by drawing/painting/creating his/her dream space ship and entering it in to our competition. A Monthlies card (that’s 4 free visits) is up for grabs, and all our entries will be proudly displayed at the centre (with a few on our website, too!).

If you know a kid with a birthday coming up you might be interested in our current special offer – 10% off our beautiful wooden toys for anybody buying for a party booked with us. And speaking of parties – we’ve had some beautiful photos taken recently, so if you’ve got a party coming up we’d definitely recommend hiring our professional child photographer. We also have a new party pack available. For an extra R10 per child, you can get lovely organza mini backpacks with Lays crisps!

Okay, enough for the kids and on to the parents. We’ve ordered in a few copies of a fascinating book called Sensory Intelligence by Occupational Therapist, Annemarie Lombard. The book looks at why humans react differently to the sensory inputs of everyday life and how one can help create an environment that’s tuned to your and your child’s sensory preferences. It’s well worth a read, and may help you to understand your child (or yourself) better. We’ll be selling the book for R130 (R10 less than its usual retail price) and have a limited supply, so contact us to put your name down for a copy.

We’ll also be getting in some beautiful, locally made, wooden puzzles. Not only will we stock some general ones, but orders can be placed for customisable puzzles (made with photographs etc.) to make a fun, unique and surprising birthday gift.

Last but not least – Dads! Get your kids to bring you along for a free slice of our yummy chocolate cake on Fathers’ Day (Sunday, June 15th). Mums who’ve missed out will have to wait for next year (and sneak a mouthful when Dad’s not looking).

And don’t forget, we also offer a drop-off service for children under 8. For an additional R20 / hour, a play assistant will watch over and play with your child.
